Sustainable Forestry
Since 1983, Las Casas de la Selva in Patillas, Puerto Rico, has been the Tropic Ventures Sustainable Forestry and Rainforest Enrichment Project, part of the Institute of Ecotechnics’ global network of ecological demonstration sites. On 300 acres of secondary forest we’ve planted thousands of hardwoods, salvaged hurricane-damaged trees, and safeguarded endangered endemics. Another 630 acres remain preserved as rainforest reserve—supporting long-term research, biodiversity protection, watershed management, and models of sustainable human–forest interaction.
