Antonino Saggio

Antonino Saggio is an architect and served as Full Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at the Faculty of Architecture, Sapienza University of Rome, until 2025.

Antonino Saggio (b. Rome, 1955) is an architect, historian, and educator whose work bridges theory, history, and technological innovation. The former coordinator of the Ph.D. program in “Theory and Design,” his career is defined by three core pillars:

  • Pedagogy & Collaboration: A dedication to making architectural design methods transparent and transmissible. He has mentored generations of students, researchers, and the nITro (New Information Technology Research Office) collective.
  • Historical & Critical Research: A continuous dialogue between history and design, resulting in definitive monographs on masters like Giuseppe Terragni, Giuseppe Pagano, Louis Sauer, Peter Eisenman, and Frank O. Gehry.
  • The IT Revolution: A pioneering belief in Information Technology as a catalyst for contemporary architecture. This vision—first explored during his tenure at Carnegie Mellon and ETH Zürich—led to his landmark book series, The IT Revolution in Architecture (Birkhäuser), and inspired critical, tech-driven urban visions for Rome (Urban Green Line, Tevere Cavo, UNLost Territories).
