Dr. Balkrishna Tejam is a pioneering analytic chemist. He was amongst the first to research and highlight trace metal pollution, including mercury, in the Bay of Bengal. A professor at the University of Bombay (Mumbai), he spoke at several IE conferences and founded IE-India which operated for a decade. He collaborated with Dr. Thor Heyerdahl documenting traditional boat-building in India and Sri Lanka.
