Johanna Eurich

Johanna Eurich is an award-winning journalist, broadcaster, and documentary producer whose career has been dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices and preserving cultural knowledge through storytelling. Originally trained in theatre, she brought a performer’s sensitivity to journalism, developing a distinctive style that combines rigorous reporting with deep human connection.

Since the late 1970s, Johanna’s work has been heard across the United States on National Public Radio, where she has produced news features, documentaries, and cultural programming from communities spanning Appalachia to rural Alaska. She played a pioneering role in Indigenous broadcasting as the founding producer of Native America Calling and helped launch National Native News, creating nationally recognized platforms for Native voices. Throughout her career she has served as News Director at several public radio stations, particularly in Alaska, where she reported from both urban centers and remote communities.

Working with the crew of the research vessel Heraclitus, Johanna also helped document the Oral Histories of the Mediterranean, recording the stories, traditions, and lived experiences of people whose knowledge reflects the rich cultural heritage of the region. She has likewise produced interviews and oral histories documenting the lives and experiences of members of the Institute of Ecotechnics community, preserving an important chapter in the Institute’s history for future generations.

Her contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s National Award for Cultural Programming and the Press Club’s Public Service Award. Through decades of reporting, documentary production, and oral history, Johanna has demonstrated the power of listening deeply and ensuring that invaluable human stories are not lost.
